2011 Building on Hope Community Impact Projects

Four worthy nonprofits have been selected to participate in our Community Impact Projects Initiative. They are:

Bridge Community Project

The Bridge Community Project is a 501(c)(3) non-profit in Littleton, NH that is currently in the process of renovating a Teen Center in downtown Littleton. The purpose of this project is to allow teenagers in Littleton the opportunity to socialize, recreate, and have fun in a safe and positive environment. A Teen Center is vitally needed in Littleton, where many teens roam the streets and have no access to a place to call their own. The Teen Center will be about 4,500 sq. ft. and will exist inside a large, 37,000 sq. ft. landmark building in Littleton.

The Bridge Community Project is currently in need of the following support: flooring materials for installation; ceiling materials for installation; lighting; windows; heating; fixtures; and furnishings (furniture, sports equipment, games, etc.). Volunteers and donors can contact James Anan, Director at (603) 444- 6517, (603) 444-1754 or jimanan7@gmail.com.

Camp Allen

Camp Allen is a 501(c)(3) non-profit camp in Bedford, NH that provides an overnight camp experience for individuals of all ages with disabilities or special needs. The purpose of this project is to renovate their lower camp (Wams area) with new doors, windows, ramps, roofing, and landscaping. The lower camp area consists of 4 cabins that require these renovation items. Camp Allen is currently in need of the following support and materials: doors, windows ramps, roofing, landscaping and interior cabin design assistance. Volunteers and donors can contact Mary Constance, Executive Director at (603) 622-8471 or mary@campallennh.org.

New Life Home for Women and Children

New Life Home for Women and Children is a 501(c)(3) non-profit in Manchester, NH that allows women who have experienced traumatic life experiences to live in a safe place. This program is unique because children are able to live with their mothers at New Life Home. The purpose of this project is to renovate their Children's Playroom and Learning Center. This project is financed by volunteers and the timeline is tentatively set for April 20 to May 7.

New Life Home for Women and Children is seeking assistance with; ceiling repairs; wall repairs and paint; bookcase repairs; stair treads to be sanded and refinished; steel posts to be primed and painted; and doors to be primed and painted. Volunteers and donors can contact Grace Rosado at (603) 624- 8444 or garjoy@comcast.net.

The Odell Park Centennial Project

The Odell Park Centennial Project is a committee of volunteers who have been working over the past 4 years to revitalize Odell Park in downtown Franklin, NH. The committee has completed a number of successful projects to date and the purpose of this project is to add fitness stations along the walking trail where individuals and families congregate. The committee has raised enough money to install a first fitness station and is now focused on installing three additional fitness stations.

The Odell Park Centennial Project is currently seeking volunteers to assist with the implementation of the stations, promotion, fundraising, etc. They are also in need of exercise equipment for the next three fitness stations. Volunteers and donors can contact Melissa Rizzo, Community Health Educator at (603) 496-9423 or mrizzo@lrgh.org.

Building on Hope is connecting these groups with building associations that can offer advice and assistance to complete the projects. We are also providing support through our network of volunteers who are experts in construction, design, fund-raising, organizing, and marketing/communications.

All Building on Hope Community Impact Projects will be completed during the month of May, 2011, which was designated as "Building on Hope month in New Hampshire" by Governor John Lynch. The project that most successfully unites and benefits its community will receive the Building on Hope Community Impact Award and all will be celebrated in a major New Hampshire Magazine feature story in July.
